Spyder takes over Le Mans & Honda Indy TorontoJune 2015
Spyder had its most successful weekend in auto-sports to date, with athletes involved in both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Honda Indy Toronto. Patrick Dempsey was all over the global news and social media channels after taking second place in the crown jewel of European auto-racing. Alongside teammates Patrick Long and Marco Seefried, Dempsey Racing drove their Porsche 911 RSR to the podium in the GTE Am category. One of the worlds most recognized events, Le Mans is also known as one of the most grueling, demanding drivers to continuously lap an 8.5 mile track at top speed, all at night. The Spyder brand was on full display to hundreds of thousands of fans, as well as when Dempsey was named the ‘Ambassador of Le Mans 2016’ on Friday night. View full deck of select imagery from Le Mans here.
Though Spyder IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe did not compete on his hometown track, he served as race’s official grand marshall, and was on site to cheer on his teammates at Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Hinchcliffe also found time to get involved with a Make-A-Wish Canada foundation event, which raised over $73,000 for children with life threatening illness. Spyder apparel flooded the grandstands, gift shops, and the Hinchtown Hammerdown Beer launch at Hunter’s Landing. View full deck of select imagery from Honda Indy Toronto here.
Spyder athletes compete in GoPro GamesJune 2015
This past weekend marked the annual GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, an event that puts many of today’s elite outdoor athletes in Colorado. Stretching over 4-days, it showcases intense competition in cycling, running, paddle boarding, kayaking, and rock climbing. Spyder alpine-athletes Steven Nyman and Julian Carr competed in two separate disciplines, displaying their skills off the snow. American downhiller Steven Nyman had a strong showing in the stand-up paddle board race, finishing 10th overall. Davenport Completes Centennial ProjectJune 2015
Spyder athlete Chris Davenport has successfully skied the 100 highest summits in Colorado, finishing off Jagged Peak this past Wednesday. The journey demanded hiking, climbing, and skiing some 350,000 vertical feet—comparable to 28 round trips from Everest Base Camp to the summit. Davenport dreamed up the ‘Centennial’ project while road tripping with friend and professional skier Ted Mahon. “We were fit and strong, and we wanted to push the bar higher,” says Davenport. “By the end of the trip, we were set on doing it.”
Davenport, the World Extreme Skiing Champion and mountaineering legend, is widely known for being the only man to ski all 14,000’ peaks in Colorado in one year (2006-2007). “It was probably the best year I’ve ever had,” Davenport says. “It reignited my passion for the mountains.” Read more on the Centennial Project here
A trip to High RustlerMay 2015
This past World Cup season, we lost two members of the US Ski Team family. On January 5th, 2015 an avalanche in Soelden took the lives of Ronnie Berlack and Bryce Astle, two rising racers on the USST development team. During our recent Men’s photo shoot at Alta Ski Area, we were fortunate enough to meet Bryce’s parents. After sharing hugs and laughs with the family, we were inspired to honor the lives of Ronnie and Bryce, through a trek to the famed-High Rustler trail. After several traverses and side steps, we arrived at High Rustler with US Ski Team coach, TJ Lanning, as well as athletes Steven Nyman and Jared Goldberg.
‘’Our adventure was nothing short of wind lips, scoured ridgeline and shark tooth-like rocks tearing at our bases. I was thinking to myself, the boys would be going a lot faster than this and probably airing over all the cliff bands. Once we finally made it, my heart rate began rushing and the emotions started to surface. All I wanted to do was shred it like they would have. The three of us picked a line to ski together, far skier left next to the cliffs. Though it was amazing to share this with good friends and teammates --- Steven and Jared --- I skied that run another dozen times before Alta closed that day, every time it feeling equally as special. ‘’, says Lanning. Nyman adds ‘’I had them in my mind the whole way down. I was envisioning the boys chasing us, skiing by my side then passing me. It was wild to feel that connection in the moment. ‘’
23-year old American downhiller, Jared Goldberg, found himself reflecting back on the innate love his peers had for skiing. ''I remember talking to some coaches about talented up and coming racers, and all of them said without a doubt Ronnie Berlack and Bryce Astle. During my first session with the US Ski Team, all the other kids training were pretty shy and didn't talk to me, but not Bryce. He was asking questions and you could tell that he loved not only racing, but skiing in general was his passion. '' Since the accident, the Astle family has spread Bryce’s ashes throughout the High Rustler trail, known now by locals as ‘Bryce’s Run’.
Chris Davenport inducted into U.S. Ski Hall Of FameMay 2015
Mountaineering legend Chris Davenport became the first Spyder athlete to be inducted into the United States Ski Hall of Fame, receiving the honor on April 11th in Steamboat Springs. In the outdoors, 'Dav' is as decorated as it comes, having skied all 14,000’ foot-peaks in Colorado in one year, summiting Mount Everest, as well as being a 2x World Extreme Skiing Champion. An icon of off-piste skiing in North America, forever living by the words of writer T.S. Eliot, "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.''

Spyder photoshoot collides with ‘Big Wednesday’ storm at Alta Ski AreaApril 2015
This past week we executed our Men’s Fall'15 Photoshoot at Alta Ski Area with Spyder athletes Steven Nyman, TJ Lanning, Jared Goldberg, and Julian Carr. We were very fortunate with the weather, as Little Cottonwood Canyon received 44’' inches of fresh snow on Tuesday night. With the World Cup season now concluded, it proved to be a special time over in Utah with our US Ski Team, as well as freestyle skiers.
Outside of the deep turns on ‘Big Wednesday’ we also captured urban lifestyle pictures in Salt Lake City, and mountain lifestyle pictures in the Wasatch National Forest.

We cannot thank POC Sports and Alta Ski Area enough for their support on this project, who went above any beyond to make it a success.
James Hinchcliffe wins Grand Prix New Orleans!April 2015
James Hinchcliffe is back on the podium after winning the Grand Prix of New Orleans.
The race proved to be a huge win for James, Schmidt-Peterson Motorsports, and Arrow Electronics, as well as jump start the young racing season.
The timing could not have been better for Spyder, with our first ever commercial spots airing on Friday and Sunday on NBC Sports. View Spyder's commercial.
James battled through dangerous conditions in Louisiana, driving through a rain-soaked track with numerous caution flags, stating "Visibility was shocking, and there were some pretty big puddles on the track..”.
After nearly running out of gas before the finish, Hinchcliffe was able to hold off iconic IndyCar driver, Helio Castroneves, to take his first checked flag since 2013 in Iowa.
Julia Mancuso to Represent Spyder as Female AmbassadorApril 2015
Spyder is pleased to announce that Julia Mancuso has renewed her contract with Spyder and will be the face of its women’s collection going forward.
Mancuso, the Olympic Gold Medalist and most decorated female alpinist in the history of the United States, is affectionately known as “Super Jules,” by her U.S. Ski Team teammates and fans. She is known for sporting a tiara when she skis, and has been memorably quoted as saying, “you can be feminine and fast,” a sentiment that aligns perfectly with Spyder’s athletic, yet sexy Femme Fatale clothing line. The Fall 2016 and Spring 2016 lines will focus on fashion-forward, fitness-conscious, high-performance clothing for all seasons.
Julia lives an active lifestyle year-round. She spends much of her time in Maui, where she resides at her permanent home. She loves to dive and surf, as much as she loves to race and ski powder. Julia notes, “Life isn’t about pushing your limits, it’s realizing there are no limits.” In a new campaign focused on ‘Life Limitless’, Mancuso will be featured in advertisements throughout 2015.
