Vonn, Miller Wear Custom Race Suits that Honor Their World Cup Titles

Spyder, the skiwear brand that's outfitted the U.S. Ski Team in performance race suits and training outerwear since 1989, created custom race suits to honor 2008 World Cup overall champions Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) and Bode Miller (Franconia, NH). Spyder developed the exclusive designs to honor both athlete's status and individualism on the race circuit.
Phil Shettig, Spyder's product director, worked with the athletes to customize the race suits. "We've had great ongoing relationships with Bode and Lindsey, so these suits are our own way to acknowledge and celebrate their outstanding accomplishments," he said. "Only one skier on the circuit can be the best, and last year, they were the top male and female athletes. They deserve special recognition."
Vonn will not have one, but nine different suits to wear at events. The pink version she debuted at the World Cup opener in Soelden, Austria will be sported for all GS and slalom races. She'll gear up in a different color and graphic design for each downhill and super G competition during the women's World Cup. Spyder is not publicly releasing the colors or designs prior to each race, allowing curiosity to build before Vonn emerges from each start gate.
"It's cool that Spyder stepped up with such an exciting way to highlight the accomplishment of becoming a World Cup overall champion," said Vonn. "Plus, I think it's a great way to generate some more excitement in our sport, I'm already looking forward to busting out of the gate in my new downhill suit at Lake Louise."
Miller requested green in his uniform to present a head-to-toe impact, incorporating the color of his helmet. He'll first wear the giant slalom suit during technical event at the Audi Birds of Prey races, Dec. 4-7 in Beaver Creek, CO, and will break in the new downhill version later in December. "I'm excited to be racing in a custom color suit from Spyder that honors my 2008 World Cup title," Miller said. His suit design and color will be consistent throughout the season.
"We are thrilled to have two World Cup overall winners from the USA and it is great to see this athletic achievement recognized by our sponsor Spyder," said U.S. Ski Team Alpine Director Jesse Hunt. "The effort Spyder is making to acknowledge this achievement is a tribute to their investment in our performance and our overall partnership."
Both athletes' suits will have a distinctive logo at the right hip signifying "World Cup 07/08 Champion." The race suits will not be available to the general public at retail.
Miller won the overall World Cup title in 2005 and 2008, and is shooting for slalom and downhill titles this season in an attempt to win each World Cup globe in his career.
Vonn, the reigning overall and downhill World Cup champion, is among the greatest female skiers in U.S. history. She recently became the first American woman to win in four separate World Cup disciplines with a historic first slalom victory on Nov. 15 in Levi, Finland. This winter, she looks to retain both World Cup titles and add her first giant slalom win to complete her victory collection.
