Colby James West

I started skiing at around 13 when I was in middle school. I was on the race program in high school, but never took it seriously and mostly used it as an opportunity to skip school and ski backwards. I went to college at Plymouth State University for a year and decided it wasn't for me. I dropped out to try my hand at being a pro skier. I lived in my car for a year traveling around the US going to contests and photo shoots. Eventually I secured more sponsors and won a few contests. My first film appearance was in the Level 1 Productions film Shanghai Six. I had one more segment with Level 1 in the film Long Story Short and moved on to film with Matchstick Productions the next season. I have been filming with them since then for the past three years. My latest film is In Deep, which just came out in the fall of 2009.

I love competing in Slopestyle and Halfpipe. I work hard to be ready for the contest season by training in Whistler, BC in the summer and New Zealand in the autumn. Skiing year round has paid off. I have three X Games bronze medals, a US Open Big Air gold medal, a bronze Dew Tour Super Pipe medal, and I won the overall for the 2008 48 Straight Super Pipe Series.

I'm not even close to being finished with competition and filming, though. I have been training non-stop for the upcoming X Games and Dew Tour stops. Both will be on national television so be sure to tune in this winter.
